Over the last ten days we received transmissions from 16 walruses (3 male and 13 female). The three males have started to move out of coastal waters, both north of the coast of Russia and between Wainwright and Barrow. Eight of the females are still located near Hanna Shoal in the Chukchi Sea. Clouds in the southern Beaufort Sea have again obstructed MODIS satellite images over the last week. Therefore, we plotted the walrus tracks over sea ice concentration data available from the National Ice Center (http://www.natice.noaa.gov/). For reference, we have added the active OCS Leases to the map.
