The Salmon Story — Fry
3. Fry
The fish leave the gravel after the yolk sac is absorbed. Now they are called fry. Most salmon fry have big oblong spots called "parr marks" on their sides. Sockeye salmon, chinook salmon, and coho salmon fry live and grow in freshwater for up to one or two years during this stage. They find food in the form of insects and plankton (tiny animals and plants that are floating in the freshwater).
