Offers Streaming Video

Biologists monitor an entangled sea lion in Southeast Alaska. ADF&G biologists helped produce a short video that describes how sea lions become entangled, the most common sources of entangling debris, and what you can do to help.

If you want to learn how to field dress a moose, catch and filet a pike, get a dog out of a marten trap or judge a trophy brown bear, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game can help.

About a dozen instructional and educational videos are now available online as streaming video. A quick visit to the multimedia library at the department’s website provides access to “Field Care of Big Game Meat,” “Is This Moose Legal” and other streaming videos. These are WMV files and require Windows Media Player, which is the default player for many computers.

The videos can be accessed at the bottom of the ADF&G home page, under: Of Interest: ADF&G multimedia Library. The address is: http://www.multimedia.adfg.alaska.gov/#video
Many of these videos are available for purchase as DVDs, and more information is available online and by viewing the production. To date, the library includes the following videos:

ALASKA’S FUR HERITAGE
Former Governor Jay Hammond narrates this exploration of the early history of Alaska with rich illustrations from University of Alaska and museum archives. Dramatic paintings, photographs and films bring you in touch with early exploration and development of the Alaskan fur trade in the 1740s through its importance during the Great Depression to Alaska's struggle for Statehood in 1959. Includes interviews with Alaska Native elders, wildlife biologists, local fur buyers, skin sewers and trappers who convey the complex values held by individual Alaskans regarding Alaska's fur heritage and its importance today.

ALASKA – WATCH OUR WILDLIFE
“Alaska — Watch Our Wildlife” offers a dazzling tour of Alaska’s wildlife. Learn important hints and tips about how to make your viewing experiences safe and satisfying.

CHAIN OF RESPECT
The Boone and Crockett Club, International Hunter Administration, Cabela's, and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game collaborated to present this 20-minute educational video on the history of ethical hunting and its importance to wildlife management and conservation programs.

ENTANGLEMENT OF STELLER SEA LIONS IN MARINE DEBRIS: IDENTIFYING CAUSES AND FINDING SOLUTIONS
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game and Sea Gypsy Research teamed up with Moore and Moore Films and Marni Productions to produce this 11-minute educational video that introduces the problem of Steller sea lion entanglement in marine debris. The video describes how sea lions become entangled, the most common sources of entangling debris, and what you can do to help reduce the number of entanglements.

FIELD CARE OF BIG GAME MEAT
The best way to learn to field dress big game is to help an experienced hunter with an animal. It is also good to review the steps to field dressing before the hunt. This video will show you a step-by-step method to field dress a moose, no matter how or where the animal has fallen. Field Care of Big Game is required viewing for unguided nonresident moose and caribou hunters in Game Management Unit 19B.

IS THIS MOOSE LEGAL?
This video will show you how to determine a legal bull in hunts that have antler restrictions. “Is This Moose Legal” is required viewing for unguided nonresident moose hunters in Unit 17B and 19B.

SHARING ALASKA’S TRAILS
Produced by the Alaska Trappers Association this video promotes trapping-awareness.
The video doesn't show dogs caught in traps. It doesn't promote trapping, but deals with the practicalities of sharing the trails and educating all users of what to look for on traplines. Various types of traps are discussed and suggestions given on how to assist a pet if necessary.

TAKE A CLOSER LOOK
An excellent video produced by the Yukon Government to educate hunters and guides on how to judge trophy bears. This video can be found at many Alaska Department of Fish & Game offices for viewing, or can be ordered from the Yukon Fish & Game Association, Box 4095, Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada YIA 359. The Division of Sport Fish has put together this 34-minute instructional video to show you the many ways northern pike can be taken in Southcentral. This includes:
