Sport Fishing Opens in Bear Cove

(Sitka) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish announced that sport fishing will reopen in Bear Cove effective 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024.

King salmon returning to Medvejie Hatchery in 2024 were not expected to meet broodstock goals. As a result, a prior announcement was issued to close sport fishing within Bear Cove on May 13, 2024. Sufficient king salmon have now arrived at Medvejie Hatchery to meet broodstock goals and a closure of this area is no longer warranted. King salmon regulations for Bear Cove are those in place for 2024 in the Southeast Alaska region under Emergency Order 1-KS-R-08-24.
