Fishery Data Series (FDS)
Present results for a single project or a group of closely related projects. These reports require biometric, peer, and editorial review, and are intended for fishery and other technically oriented professionals.
Fishery Management Reports (FMR)
Present an overview of management activities or management plans in a geographic area. These reports are regionally peer reviewed.
Fishery Manuscripts (FMS)
Present a broader outlook on one or more projects, often presenting an overview of work undertaken through multiple projects to address a specific research or management goal. These reports require biometric, peer, and editorial review.
Special Publications (SP)
Present special subject reports that do not fit in other categories, such as fishery technique manuals, special subject reports to decision making bodies, and symposia and workshop proceedings. These reports require biometric, peer, and editorial review, but can waive that review for specific reports.
Subsistence Special Publications (SP2)
The Division of Subsistence Special Publications series was established for the publication of techniques and procedure manuals, informational pamphlets, special subject reports to decision-making bodies, symposia and workshop proceedings, application software documentation, in-house lectures, and other documents that do not fit in another publications series of the Division of Subsistence. Most Special Publications are intended for readers generally interested in fisheries, wildlife, and the social sciences; for natural resource technical professionals and managers; and for readers generally interested the subsistence uses of fish and wildlife resources in Alaska.
Habitat Technical Reports (TR)
The Division of Habitat technical report series includes biomonitoring and research results used to guide project review and permitting.
Subsistence Technical Paper Series (TPS)
The heart of the Subsistence Division's work is published in the Technical Paper Series. The series is the most complete collection of current information about subsistence in Alaska. The papers cover all regions of the state. Some papers were written in response to specific fish and game management issues. Others provide detailed, basic information on the subsistence uses of particular communities which pertain to a large number of scientific and policy questions.
Commercial Fisheries Annual Management Reports (CMR)
Present an overview of management activities in a stated geographic area, during a stated time period. The series compiles harvest estimates, fish abundance estimates, and catch statistics related to management activities.
Regional Information Reports (RIR)
Regional Information Reports may contain raw data and preliminary results, and receive varying degrees of regional, biometric and editorial review. Regional Operational Plans (ROPs) are preliminary planning documents. Please contact the author or the division for report review status, and to determine if citation is appropriate for information reported in these series.
Regional Operational Plans (ROP)
Documents in this series describe Operational Plans for fisheries projects. These reports are planning documents, and may contain raw data; analyses and results provided are preliminary. Project results may be subsequently finalized and published in a different department reporting series or in the formal literature.
Alaska Fishery Research Bulletin (AFRB Journal)
Produced twice a year, this journal contains technical and scientific information of direct or indirect pertinence to Alaskan subsistence, personal use, commercial, and sport fisheries. The AFRB includes contributions from both outside and within ADF&G. The Alaska Fishery Research Bulletin (AFRB) has been published by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game since 1961, initially as the Informational Leaflet and then as the Fishery Research Bulletin. In 1994 it was changed from presenting monographs to its current journal format: articles, issues & perspectives, notes, and letters. This search category will provide results for Informational Leaflet, Fishery Research Bulletin, and Alaska Fishery Research Bulletin reports.
Fisheries Rehabilitation, Enhancement, and Development (FRED); and Federal Aid in Fish Restoration Reports
These reports were produced to provide prompt reporting of final data from studies performed by ADF&G with interest to outside agencies or other scientists. Federal Aid in Fish Restoration cooperated heavily in production of these reports, which date back to statehood. This series continued until 1993.
Commercial Fisheries Special Publication (CSP)
Commercial Fisheries publication series from 1989-2004. Present special subject reports that do not fit in other categories, such as fishery technique manuals, special subject reports to decision making bodies, and symposia and workshop proceedings.
Technical Fishery Report (TFR)
These reports were generally interim or annual, rather than final reports summarizing a completed study or project. Received editorial review as well as anonymous peer review.
Technical Data Report (TDR)
Division of Commercial Fisheries publication series from 1972-1988, focused on publication of data.
Statistical Leaflets (CSL)
Division of Commercial Fisheries publication series from 1961-1985. Provides annual catch and production information from commercial fishing industry (provided by fish tickets) and commercial operator information (summarized from Commercial Operator's Annual Reports).
