Invasive Species — Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar)
Distribution

Range

Atlantic salmon are native to the northern Atlantic Ocean, from the Arctic Circle to Portugal in the eastern Atlantic, from Iceland and southern Greenland, and from the Ungava region of northern Quebec south to the Connecticut River.

Habitat Preference

Atlantic salmon require flowing rivers of moderate gradient for spawning. Rivers must stay cool in the summer and have a gravel substrate for successful reproduction and development.
