Copper River Delta —
Critical Habitat Area
Visitor Information
Public Use and Access
A great diversity of bird species during spring migration makes the delta popular for wildlife watching in May. Fall waterfowl hunting, moose and bear hunting, trapping, salmon fishing, and clamming are popular pursuits. The critical habitat area is connected to the city of Cordova and the Cordova Municipal Airport by the Copper River Highway along which can be found many wildlife viewing opportunities. Boat landings are found at Alaganik Slough and Eyak River. Small planes can land many places on the delta. The U.S. Forest Service operates a number of public use cabins on the delta and has developed a coho salmon spawning and viewing area located at mile 25.25 of the Copper River Highway. For restrictions applying to the off-road use of motorized vehicles in vegetated areas contact the U.S. Forest Service. A special area permit from the Department of Fish and Game is required for off-road use of motorized vehicles on tidelands in the critical habitat area.
