Over the last fourteen days we have received transmissions from two ringed seals. One seal (110593) remains north of the Chukotka Peninsula, Russia. The second seal (110584) moved north from Alaska, into the Beaufort Sea, and is located near the edge of the sea ice. MODIS sea ice images of the Chukchi and Beaufort seas are still obscured by heavy cloud cover. Therefore, we used SSMIS sea ice data from the University of Bremen, Germany (http://www.iup.uni-bremen.de:8084/ssmis/index.html), dated 26 August.
