Ice Seal Tracking Maps Archive

During the last 10 days we have received locations for 4 bearded, 2 ringed, and 4 spotted seals. Ringed seal RS17-02-M (yellow arrow) has moved north through the Bering Strait, back into the Chukchi Sea, and is currently north of the Chukotka Peninsula, Russia. All four spotted seals are within roughly 60 miles (96 km) of each other and in the marginal ice zone (<80% ice concentration) between St. Matthew and Nunivak islands in the Bering Sea. Bearded seal BS17-04-F (green square) is still moving south along the Alaskan coast toward the Bering Strait. Bearded seal BS17-01-F (purple square) continues to make short movements parallel to the coastline near Utqiaġvik.
