During the last 16 days we have received locations for 4 bearded, 2 ringed, and 3 spotted seals. All ringed and bearded seals are in areas with sea ice, primarily heavy ice (<80% concentration), and are generally within 40 miles (64 km) of land. All spotted seals are located in open water in the Bering Sea; the central Bering Sea remains mostly free of sea ice. Sea ice data are courtesy of the U.S. National Ice Center, dated March 7 (http://www.natice.noaa.gov/products/daily_products.html).
