Requested Tracking Map
We are pleased to announce that, as part of a collaborative project, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the North Slope Borough, Department of Wildlife Management tagged a female spotted seal in Dease Inlet, near Utqiaġvik, Alaska on 26 July. SS18-03-F was tagged with a CTD and flipper (SPOT) tag.

During the last 10 days we have received locations for 2 bearded and 4 spotted seals. The two bearded seals are near sea ice in the northern Chukchi Sea. SS18-03-F (teal circle), recently tagged near Utqiaġvik, has left Dease Inlet and moved south along the Alaskan coastline, into the northeast Chukchi Sea. The other three spotted seals are in the Bering Sea, two generally near Scammon Bay and one (SS18-01-M, orange circle) has moved north, toward St. Lawrence Island. Sea ice data are courtesy of the U.S. National Ice Center, dated 30 July (http://www.natice.noaa.gov/products/daily_products.html).
