Location
Western Kodiak Island, including the area from village of Larsen Bay south to Alf Islands, across Uyak Bay and north to the Browns Lagoon area. Amook Island is also within this hunt area. area map (Image file 89 kB).
Topography and Habitat
Uyak Bay is a deep Fjord that cuts most of the way through Kodiak. The sides are steep mountainous terrain vegetated with dense alder thickets. Coastal areas and river bottoms have willows and cottonwoods. Alpine tundra dominates most areas above 1500'. Tidal muddy beaches, lagoons, small Islands, and numerous drainages also occur in this hunt area. Amook Island rises to 1615' and is mostly covered with brush.
Land Ownership
Koniag Inc. owns most of the lands along the shoreline of Uyak Bay and Amook Island. There are also several private inholdings along the coast. Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge manages most of the inland areas.
Public Use Cabins
There are a number of lodges within this area, but no public use cabins.
